DISCOVER THE AREA

Stomio & the surrounding area

Where the mountain meets the sea.

Discover Stomio

Stomio is a small seaside village at the foot of Mount Ossa, where mountain, forest, the Pinios River and the Aegean Sea meet in a distinctive natural landscape.

You can start the day with a swim and, a short while later, be surrounded by the greenery of Mount Ossa. The area is ideal both for quiet beach days and for short trips, walks and exploration.

There is no need to rush your discovery of Stomio. A walk through the village, a day by the sea, a mountain drive or simply some time looking out over the Aegean is enough to get a feel for the place.

Beaches worth discovering

The sea is one of the area’s great attractions. From Stomio’s long sandy beach to small coves tucked beneath the green slopes of Mount Ossa, each day can take you to a different beach.

Στόμιο

Stomio Beach

Stomio’s long, beautiful sandy beach, known for its shallow water, is the closest and easiest choice for a daily swim. There are several cafés and organised areas with sun loungers. Greenery, small streams and footbridges give the area a picturesque character. The shallow water is usually warm, and the beach is suitable for water sports, particularly kite surfing and windsurfing, as well as beach volley and beach rackets. The lighthouse is one of Stomio’s landmarks.

Pigadi

Pigadi

One of the smaller beaches between Stomio and Kokkino Nero. Here the slopes of Mount Ossa approach the sea and greenery dominates the scenery. It is a small, charming cove with fine pebbles, exceptionally clear water that is usually calm, and plane trees growing close to the shore and providing natural shade.

Πλατιά άμμος

Platia Ammos

Platia Ammos lies along the same scenic coastal route and is another good choice for exploring the shoreline. The beach stretches for about 700 metres, with fine sand and small pebbles. From midday onwards, large plane trees provide natural shade. The green mountain slopes create an impressive backdrop, while a café-bar, fish taverna and kiosk serve the organised part of the beach.

Kokkino Nero

Kokkino Nero

Kokkino Nero is a distinctive seaside settlement set among a forest dominated by plane trees. Its beach is known for rounded pebbles and exceptionally clear blue-green water, making it a good place for exploring underwater with a mask. Along the coast you will find several tavernas serving food and traditional meze.

Koutsoupia

Koutsoupia

Koutsoupia combines mountain and sea in a characteristic way. Much of the beach is organised, with beach bars offering umbrellas and sun loungers, while there is also plenty of free space for your own equipment. Along the seafront road you will find fish tavernas serving fresh fish, traditional meze and local seafood overlooking the sea.

Paliouria

Paliouria

A little farther south, Paliouria continues the beautiful coastal scenery of Mount Ossa. Sand, pebbles, sea and green slopes create another distinct option. The beach extends for roughly 2 km, with plane trees shading part of the shore. The blue-green water is often calmer than at some nearby beaches and deepens gradually, with plenty of space for your own beach equipment.

Alexandrini

Alexandrini

Just 3 km north of Stomio, Alexandrini Beach lies beside the mouth of the Pinios River, where fresh water meets the sea. Its golden sandy shore stretches for about 2 km. A beach bar provides umbrellas and sun loungers, while there is ample free space for your own equipment.

Start along the coastal road, stop wherever appeals to you most, and discover your own favourite beach. The search is part of the holiday.

Mount Ossa – routes & short trips

A stay in Stomio is not only about the sea. Directly behind the coast rises Mount Ossa — also known as Kissavos — offering a completely different side of the area.

You do not have to choose between mountain and sea. You can enjoy both on the same day.
